Who we are
Woolard Consulting & Marketing Group is led by a husband-and-wife team who work closely together, combining complementary experience across strategy, entrepreneurship, marketing, and advertising technology. Depending on the scope and complexity of an engagement, we may also bring in a small network of trusted advisors with backgrounds in oil and gas, venture capital, insurance, healthcare technology, finance, governmental affairs, and mergers and acquisitions.
Nathan Woolard
He is an applied professor and the Robert “Cy” Elmberg Endowed Chair in the Department of Management and Marketing in the Collins College of Business at The University of Tulsa. His work centers on entrepreneurship, leadership, and how organizations grow and change in practice. Nathan played a central role in building UTulsa’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, contributing to the university’s recognition as a Top 50 Entrepreneurship Program by the Princeton Review in 2025. He was instrumental in launching the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and served as the founding director of the JOLT program, a co-curricular initiative supporting student founders. He currently serves as faculty advisor for the TU Student Management Association and as an instructor for the applied Business Plan Competition course.
Nathan teaches and develops courses across entrepreneurship, leadership, and marketing at both the undergraduate and MBA levels. He is the primary instructor for MBA 7023, Leading and Managing Organizations, and developed the online version of the course for the relaunch of UTulsa’s Online MBA in 2026. He also created the Small Business Management course and regularly teaches classes such as Introduction to Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Organizational Behavior, Enterprise Creation, and Leading Change. Earlier in his career, he also taught Principles of Marketing, Marketing Management, and applied creativity and innovation courses..
In addition to teaching, Nathan is an active researcher and speaker. He has published more than a dozen peer-reviewed journal articles and regularly presents at national conferences, including the National Main Street Conference and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship. He frequently mentors founder teams and accompanies them to statewide and regional competitions, working closely with early-stage companies as they refine strategy, positioning, and execution in real-world settings.
Alongside his academic work, Nathan and his wife Lauren have owned and operated small businesses, giving him firsthand experience with the realities of founder-led decision-making, limited resources, and day-to-day tradeoffs. This combination of experience shapes a practical, common-sense consulting approach grounded in understanding the business before offering solutions.
Lauren Woolard
Lauren Woolard brings hands-on experience across small business operations, digital marketing, media planning, and advertising technology, with a career shaped by learning through doing and building from the ground up.
She began her career working with a Main Street organization, where she helped plan and facilitate events for local business owners, assisted with website management, and wrote copy for local news and promotional materials. Through this work, Lauren worked closely with small business owners, supporting day-to-day marketing efforts and gaining a practical understanding of how local businesses operate and communicate.
After identifying a gap in the market and with the encouragement of the Main Street director, Lauren left the organization to launch her own online retail business. Running the business required her to develop foundational digital marketing skills firsthand, including brand development, paid advertising, conversion tracking, and performance analysis. By the time of the business exit in 2019, the brand had grown to more than 22,000 Instagram followers and had built repeatable, measurable marketing performance.
Following the exit, Lauren moved into agency-side advertising, where she worked as a media planner on large, global accounts with budgets exceeding $20 million. This role allowed her to apply the practical skills developed as a founder within a structured agency environment, planning, executing, and optimizing campaigns across multiple channels and markets for brands including Crocs, BMW, and Pampers.
Today, Lauren works in advertising technology at a San Francisco–based data collaboration company, partnering with agencies and brands on data strategy, privacy-safe measurement, and modern marketing infrastructure. She is an Oklahoma native and earned her degree in Management from the University of Central Oklahoma.
She is a native Tulsan and graduate of Tulsa Union High School.
